Zamin Rizvi of FARE's (Food Allergy and Research) Teen Advisory Group built this database because finding allergen information before eating somewhere shouldn't require 20 minutes of Googling. Most major restaurants already publish allergen PDFs or interactive tools, and we've now built the one place to access them all.
All links are verified manually by Zamin and a team of researchers.
AllergyLocate is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any restaurant listed. We are an independent, referential directory. Allergen information is collected from publicly available sources and user submissions.
The site exists to make allergen information more accessible online, but we can only make accessible what is available. NJ S3394 would mandate every restaurant to publish that information. With this database, research into how allergen information is made available online is streamlined.
The real gap? Independent restaurants. While we understand the limitations of small kitchens, the 33 million Americans managing food allergies deserve to be informed about whether or not the food they order contains something potentially deadly for them.
AllergyLocate answers if a restaurant publishes allergen info. The Transparency Score goes one level deeper by rating how "good" that disclosure actually is. The score is evaluated on the following criteria: Completeness, Accessibility, Currency, Format, and Disclosure, with standards based in the Nutritics 2026 Allergy Dining Report and California's SB 68 (Allergen Disclosure for Dining Experiences Act).
Completeness — does it cover all 9 major allergens, and is that listed per menu item or just as one general statement?
Accessibility — how easy is it to actually find on the restaurant's own site?
Currency — is there a visible date showing when it was last updated?
Format — is it a searchable tool, an organized PDF, or something harder to use?
Disclosure — does it mention shared equipment or cross-contact risk, not just ingredients?
We're still working on adding a score to each restaurant, but once every listing has a score, the Transparency Dashboard — tracking disclosure across regions, types, and price points — will be available for further research.
Per the FDA: milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame. Restaurants in this database publish information about some or all of these. Most disclosures are at the category level — for example, "tree nuts" rather than specific nuts like hazelnut or almond. Always confirm your specific allergen with the restaurant directly.
This is a volunteer-built project, and it's growing faster than one person can verify. We're looking for help with restaurant research, outreach, and front-end development. If you're interested in public health and want to join a project investigating real-world application, we'd love to have you.
